Healthpac one of first medical billing software companies to achieve EHNAC Practice Management System accreditation

Healthpac, a national healthcare and practice management billing software company headquartered in Savannah, Ga., is one of the first developers to be fully accredited through the recently introduced Practice Management System Accreditation Program (PMSAP) from the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC).

Healthpac is a leading provider of proprietary medical billing and practice management software for physicians, radiology imaging centers, healthcare providers, laboratories and medical billing companies and has more than 3,000 users in 43 states. Healthpac CEO Buddy Claborn is a previous recipient of the National Healthcare Billing Software Vendor of the Year from the Healthcare Billing and Management Association, and in 2014 he was invited to serve as a member of EHNAC's advisory board during the development of the PMSAP standards and processes.

Healthpac was a BETA tester for the PMSAP program, and  Claborn said his company placed particular emphasis on reinforcing the security and privacy safeguards within Healthpac's software during the accreditation application process. The PMSAP accreditation serves as a third-party review to provide an additional level of assurance to the healthcare provider community, allowing them to better evaluate medical billing and practice management system vendors.

The introduction of the PMSAP review and accreditation is an important development in the medical billing software industry, and healthcare patients will ultimately benefit from the introduction of this extensive review process. Requiring medical billing and practice management software providers to be accredited through EHNAC is expected to result in a reduction in billing inaccuracies as well as fraud as unqualified and unscrupulous software providers are weeded out.

"The PMSAP is now the gold standard for evaluating healthcare billing software providers, and we are proud of being at the leading edge of the medical billing and practice management industry," said Claborn, who also serves on the board of the Healthcare Administrative Technology Association. "Building trust in the healthcare community is a top priority, and the accreditation enables us to clearly demonstrate a commitment to quality, protection and assurances that reassure the healthcare provider community. Without question, the vendors that achieve accreditation are separating themselves within our industry."

Through the consultative review process, EHNAC evaluated Healthpac in areas of privacy, security, mandated standards and operating rules as well as key operational functions. Additionally, EHNAC assessed the organization's health information and oversight for meeting privacy and security, HIPAA and ACA requirements while also grading technical performance, business processes and resource management.

EHNAC is a voluntary, self-governing standards development organization (SDO) established to develop standard criteria and accredit organizations that electronically exchange healthcare data. EHNAC was founded in 1993, and the EHNAC accreditation process promotes quality service, innovation, cooperation and open competition in healthcare.
