ONC Awards Green Circle Health Second Place in Phase 2 of Consumer Health Data Aggregator Challenge

Date Posted: Wednesday, January 18, 2017

The Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) announced Green Circle Health (GCH) as the second place winner in Phase 2 of its Consumer Health Data Aggregator Challenge. In addition, GCH was recognized as the "Ultimate Connector" for its ability to connect to the greatest number of unique health IT systems and received $50,000 in total prize money.

Announced last year, the Consumer Health Data Aggregator Challenge was developed to foster private sector innovation to make health information available in user-friendly formats and enable consumers and providers to easily and securely access and share electronic health information. In Phase 1, GCH's online patient-to-provider communications gateway, the GCH Platform, was recognized as one of the best solutions that allows consumers to easily and electronically access their health data from different health care providers using a variety of health IT systems.

Within the past year, GCH has made tremendous progress in achieving its goal of helping consumers improve health and wellbeing, using its next generation apps that utilize the real-time exchange of patient vitals and health records among physicians, patients, family members and insurers, including:
  • Establishing a Client Services Center in Carmel, Ind. to provide care coordination, coaching and remote monitoring for GCH users;
  • Deploying the GCH Platform to offer a highly-customized health and wellness program with iOS, Android and web apps designed to build a culture of health and drive greater returns for a  large retailer with over 80,0000 employees;
  • Delivering the GCH Platform to offer chronic care management with remote monitoring and enhanced patient engagement for a large Medicaid Managed Care Organization; and
  • Joining the BENEFITFOCUS® Ecosystem, linking the GCH Platform within the BENEFITFOCUS® Marketplace to allow employers to offer employees and their families greater control over their health and wellbeing.

"We are thrilled to recognize new tools that make it easier for individuals and clinicians to access health information and put it to use," said Dr. Vindell Washington, national coordinator for health information technology (IT). "These apps reflect the incredible progress that is possible as a result of the digital health infrastructure that the public and private sector have built together over the last eight years."

"As the healthcare industry continues to leverage its investment in digital infrastructure, healthcare IT providers like GCH have the unique opportunity to develop innovative methods of delivering consumer data to both patients and providers," said Dinesh Sheth, CEO and founder of GCH. "Patients and their families have waited too long for health information to be available in an easily understood and actionable format. We appreciate the ONC breaking down the barriers to innovation and encouraging the use of HL-7 FHIR standard-based open API to bring data from major EHR vendors and seamlessly deliver it into the hands of consumers."
