I am still in school for medical billing and I was just wondering, on average, how many claims do you complete in an 8 hour work day?

Everything depends on outside influences such as:

The practice specialty.
How many patients are seen on a daily basis
Whether you are billing facility services or provider services.
Whether you are coding or coding and billing
Whether the provider does a superbill or you do the coding
Whether you verify benefits before you send the claim or not verify at all.

Lets say the provider treats 4 patients per hour or 1 every 15 minutes.  That is 32 patients per day per provider.  One practice in my area treats 1 patient every 10 minutes and there is standing room only.

If the provider treats 32 patients per day, that should also give you one patent every 15 minutes to input data, verify benefits and verify any errors before sending the claim/statement. One practice in Jacksonville, Florida allows 2 minutes per claim per person.  They usually code and bill at least 1500 claims per day
