I am a brand new coder in an surgical suite in a physicians office and I am getting confused on the coding of anesthesia and drugs.  Are the anesthetic drugs (J codes) billed for on the claim or are they considered included in the anesthesia codes?  Are other drugs such as Zofran billed for on the claim or are they considered induced in the anesthesia codes?
Thank you

If your doctor is purchasing the drugs being administered during the procedure than they can bill for reimbusement using the appropriate HCPC codes. You will need to include the NDC number on the claim form, and send a copy of the purchasing invoice. The reimbursement is normally minimal, but at least they will be reimbursed for their medications
