Patient had bone density exam 2 years ago, and was diagnosed with Osteopenia.  Physician ordered routine bone density for 2 years.  Should the current exam be coded with diagnosis of Osteopenia or as a routine screening?

If it's Medicare they will only pay ICD9 733.00.  They will pay this dx code 100% of the allowed effective 01/01/11. They WILL NOT pay a "V" code for this service. Most all private insurances will pay this dx as well. good luck

Medicare may only allow 733.00 code range but there is nothing wrong with useing  v-codes for  3rd spot to tell complete picture.
