Coding, as many of you have found isnt as simple and easy as one would think.  It can be very difficult.  To code correctly, you must review the medical record documentation, look up the code and read the information attached to that code. You must code from current manuals and guidelines.   You must not and should never code from a forum.  As Forrest Gump said, you never know what you're going to get.  You dont know who the words come from.  A post may never contain true and correct information.  The person posting may be a fake, they may be real, they may be pulling a harmless prank on you but you will never know.  Initials may not mean anything.  Some people have excellent initils after their name.  They earned them through hard word, hours of training and difficult testing.  But, anyone can put initials after their name.  You would think you can trust someone with initials, but again, you never know what you're going to get.  Certification is a sign of dedication and mastery of the profession.  Certification means you trust that the person is who they say they are, who they represent.  That what they present is trusted, true, accurate and correct.  Verify, Verify, Verify is our watchword.  if you're sitting at the lunch table and someone says something, if it can be verified, it may be true, but it could be something someone heard from the sister's boyfriends second cousin who works at 31 flavors.  You do not want to make mistakes that is costly for everyone.  Words on a computer screen could be made by a lonely man in a cave in the middle of the ural mountains.  They could be from a hacker, someone having a laugh at your expense.  Again, verify, verify, verify.  Open the book and see for yourself that wthat you've been provided is 100% true, accurate, correct, and current.  I trust someone who is a CPC or someone who has coding certification through a trusted and established coding organization.  This is because to me, they set the bar high for themselves and they went for the Olympic Gold by becoming the best and someone who is trustworthy, honest, and committed to the profession.  You want to be the go to person everyone trusts.  To do that, you have to earn it.  You do that through training, certification, hard work, experience, and dedication.  Olympic Gold is not earned the easy way.  Thousands of hours of training and experience brings you to the location.  You still have to earn the Gold.  You have to be the best.  You have to exceed the standards.  But it all falls back to training, certification, experience, verifying verifying and verifying.  Excellence isnt given, it is earned.
