I am sure that this has been asked but I can't seem to find exactly what I am looking for.  I currently work at a hospital as a computer support tech.  I am very interested in meditech billing and coding.  They offer a Medical Billing & Coding class at our local Votech school for $275 and I was going to enroll this semester.  However, a couple of people have told me that a votech class will not prepare me for this field.  My question is, where do you learn?  Is this usually a four year degree or will the votech class get me started?  I already have my unit secretary (unit clerk) certification so the medical terminology shouldn't cause me any problems.  Thanks in advance for any direction that you can give.
