I am currently a student at Devry majoring in Health Information technology, and I need to do a very informal interview with someone that currently works in my field of interest.

I have a list of questions, and only need very short responses, along with name, title, and company if possible. I don't know anyone currently in medical coding, so I could really use some help with this if you could spare a few moments.

These are my list of questions:

And again, thanks for taking the time to help a medical coding student.

What do you like best about your position as a medical coder?
Coding itself

What kind of impact has this position had on your lifestyle?
No impact

What advice would you give someone just entering this career track?
Undergo the proper training and become certified.  Understand you are competing with everyone else wanting to be a coder, so you have to be better than anyone else.  Your mistakes are costly to the doctor and patient.

What kinds of tasks do you complete during a typical work day or week?
Too many to mention in a message

What types of career advancement opportunities are available for entry-level candidates on this career track?
Whatever is available through the employer. It can vary

Company related:
What is the corporate culture of this company?
???

Does this company encourage or promote continuing education?
Which company?

What types of training programs does this company offer?
None, i work for a physician not a company.

What are some of the goals of the company for the next few years?
None

Industry related:
What kinds of challenges is the industry currently facing?
ICD-10, ANSI 5010

Who are some of the major and minor competitors in the industry?
Everyone looking for work

Are there any likely changes that may affect the industry in the next few years?
Too many to mention

Off the record, these questions have nothing to do with coding training.  You are better concentrating on coding training than asking questions like these as they have nothing to do with your work as a coder or your training in coding.

Steve- thank you for your answers, and I agree that these questions have very little if any relation to medical coder jobs, however the assignment is from a career class that is required to graduate, and is not specific to one career or major.

I do thank you for your time though. And I appreciate your help a lot.
