Do I need to go to school?

I am almost done with my B.S. in Health Services Management. I would like to add a coding certification to my resume, either a CPC, CCA, or CCS. Which one would you guys recommend? Also, is it possible to buy the books for these exams and study on my own or do I most certainly have to take the class? I've heard of people studying by themselves for the exams. Is it doable?

Having just passed the CPC exam on the first try, I can only say that for me I do not think I could have done it on my own without a course.  But it is possible, I think.  I graduated from Career Step in May and took the test on August 4.  I basically studied daily for almost the entire summer.  Having a class enables you to have support and someone that can answer your questions.  Also I am not sure I could have gotten the EM codes on my own.  It is very difficult, at least it was for me.  Let me know if you have any further questions.
