What is the correct code for flow cytometry?
The CPT codes for the technical component of flow cytometry allow for separate billing of the initial marker (88184) and each additional marker (88185). The final report is reviewed and interpreted by the cytopathologist who will assess an aggregate of all markers analyzed. The CPT code reported for the interpretation and report is determined by the total number of markers assessed and one of the three CPT codes (88187, 88188, 88189) is then selected and billed.
