This is the sixth edition of this trusted source of CPT® coding information. This in-depth book follows the format of the CPT® codebook so it is extremely easy to follow for all CPT® users but should not be used as a substitute for the codebook itself.

The first couple of chapters contain information about the CPT® code set with subchapters discussing the development and maintenance of the CPT® codebook, categories, modifiers and code set basics.

The other chapters are devoted to the major sections of the CPT® codebook providing guidelines, reviews and explanations of each category. There are also tables and figures/images to assist with understanding of the items covered as well.

An entire chapter is devoted to Modifiers and their use and role in the CPT® code and there are a couple of appendices providing information on coding from an operative report and National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits. There is also a code index that helps you find all the references to a particular code throughout the book so you don't have to go searching on your own.

This book can be used as a learning/teaching/refresher tool (as well as a reference tool of course!) as there are quizzes at the end of each chapter with the answers found in an appendix at the back of the book. Another offering that comes with this book is the educator materials that can be used to enhance lectures and provide resources to assist creating exercises, quizzes and tests.

Overall, this is an excellent reference book to keep in your office, as it will probably answer every question that you can think of when it comes to the CPT® codebook.
