Speaker Bio:

Karen Collins, CPC, CPMCS has over 13 years medical coding experience. Karen began working in the medical field in 1999 as a Billing and Collections Specialist for Eagles Landing OBGYN. It was at that time that she received her first denial and appealed her first claim and realized medical billing is where her career was were she was meant to be. Since entering the medical billing field, Mrs. Collins has engaged in many assignments in a variety of settings.  Her work encompasses serving as Billing Manager of Pediatrics, Family Practice and Internal Medicine and most recently Billing Coordinator for a Macon Billing Company specializing in Pain Management. Her work crosses all specialties but has her major expertise is in Denial Management, Reimbursement and Pain Management Coding.

Karen is a member of AAPC, PAHCS, AHIMA, HCCA and HFMA. She obtained her CPC in 2007 and CPMCS in 2008 and is currently in process of taking her CCP for Physician Compliance. Karen is finishing her Bachelor of Science in Business & Information Technology - Management Track and Associates Degree in Business Administration at Macon State College in Georgia. She is currently serving on the PAHCS Specialty Board for Pain Management, Education Officer for the AAPC Macon Chapter and on the Editorial Board for BC Advantage Magazine. She has also served as the Co-Chair of Certified Financial Counselor for HFMA in 2008. In 2007 she received a nomination for Coder of the Year for the AAPC and is an approved member of the National Association of Professional Women.
