Physicians Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) Update

Each year, CMS implements the Physicians Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) through a rulemaking process published in the Federal Register. In general, CMS has responded positively to provider feedback and continues to provide educational opportunities and implementation resources to encourage better participation. As well, they have endeavored each year to address system and reporting difficulties.
However, according to the results of a recent survey of 429 participating practices belonging to the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), CMS continues to demonstrate administrative difficulties with the initiative. The survey data report that 36.5 percent of participating practices could not download the feedback report for the 2008 reporting year. And, fewer than half, 48 percent, of the participating practices were able to successfully access their feedback reports.
