When Don Self writes something, he writes it with authority and a very healthy dose of humor and this book is no different. ERISA is an area that is often misunderstood (or not even understood at all) as according to Don, only 5% of those who work in medical offices know anything about it or how it can help them. Isn't that incredible when it affects so many claims and patients?

This book covers who ERISA affects, provides examples of ERISA claims and non-ERISA claims, defines what ERISA is, which parts of ERISA helps medical providers (including ABDs, Medical unnecessary ABDs), retroactive benefit denials, appeals and appropriate documentation, examples of letters to use throughout the process, and so much more. The wealth of knowledge that is presented within this book may not bring you to "expert" status, but it will help you understand this very interesting and important area.

If you are interested in learning more about ERISA and using it in your office to help with denials and reimbursement issues, then this is the book for you. Providers should be paid for what they do and the fact that insurance companies try to hide behind "laws" or mislead
providers is really disappointing.
