Are you still waiting for your paper Remittance Advice (RA) to find out if your claim has been paid? Save time and money by downloading your FREE Medicare Remit Easy Print (MREP) software.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) developed the MREP software as a FREE tool to enable physicians and suppliers the ability to view, search, and print HIPAA compliant RAs from their office.
Advantages of the FREE software include:
- Easy navigation and viewing of the Electronic Remittance (835) from your computer.
- Find claims effortlessly by an easy to use search function that allows physicians to find claims based on customized search criteria such as beneficiary names, Health Insurance Claim Numbers (HCIN), National Drug Code (NDC) numbers, Rendering Physician NPI number, Referring Physician NPI, procedure codes, and Dates of Service (DOS).
- View, search, and print the 835 in the Standard Paper Remittance (SPR) format that you are used to receiving. This includes all paid, denied, adjusted claims and those claims with amounts applied to deductible.
- Print and export reports containing remittance information.
- MREP eliminates the need to physically file and store claims.
Some useful reports include:
- Adjusted Service Lines Report Shows claims within a single RA that received a Reason Code of -22. (This care may be covered by another payer per coordination of benefits.) This allows you to forward the claim to another payer promptly to receive your payment faster.
- Coordination of Benefits (COB)/Non COB Report Lists claims by their Coordination of Benefits (COB) status. Physicians can view all claims which were crossed over (forwarded) to their Medigap insurance as well as those which were not crossed over to secondary or tertiary payers.
- Deductible/Coinsurance Report Lists claims that have a beneficiary deductible and/or coinsurance along with the amount.
- Denied Service Report Finds all claims within a remittance that have an allowed amount of zero and which does not have a Reason Code of -22.
- Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP)/Non-MSP Claims Report Shows claims by their MSP status. The physician may choose claims paid as primary or secondary.
- Other Adjustment Report Lists claims that had some type of adjustment, including claims that have late filing and interest charges as well as those claims that have a withholding or a forwarding balance.
- A withholding indicates funds have been withheld from the provider's payment for that RA. This is the result of an adjusted or reversed claim that has caused an overpayment to the provider for a patient's previously paid claim. The reason code is WO. The WO changes the amount of the payment for that RA.
- A forwarding balance is the amount that has been paid on a previously processed claim. This amount does not indicate funds have been withheld from the provider's payment for that RA. It only indicates that a past claim has been adjusted to a different dollar amount. The reason code is FB.
The MREP software allows you to print all or as many claims as you want from an RA thus saving time and paper. For instance, if you have a beneficiary with multiple insurances, you can print out their claim and attach it to the secondary insurance claim.
