Congratulations to Storm and the BC Advantage team on their 10 year anniversary! I remember as though it were only yesterday when Storm sent me an email, asking me if I wanted to write an article for his newly minted magazine. Wow Storm, we have witnessed a lot of changes in healthcare over the past 10 years! I thought I would share some of the highlights and if you remember them all as vividly as I do, you can call yourself a "Master of Healthcare Change!" Read on and add up your points, then check your score below.
According to authors Paul B. Ginsburg and Cara S. Lesser, of A Decade of Tracking Health System Change (2006), "the only constant in Health Care is change." To start our BC Advantage look back prospective, we go back to the year 2004, when President Bush is in Oval Office and the mantra of the campaign trail is "Healthcare Reform," due to the exploding costs of Medicare. At the same time, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities report the number of uninsured Americans rose by 800,000 to 45.8 million that year. To control Medicare costs, Part D was introduced in 2006, with the national news coverage predicting millions of Americans would lose vital drug coverage.
If you remember when George W. Bush was elected into office, give yourself 20 points and if you know what his middle initial stands for, give yourself an additional 10 points! If you remember when Medicare Part D was implemented, give yourself 10 points.
