Don't break the bank: How to obtain CEU's without breaking the bank
In order to maintain accreditation as a "certified coder" the AAPC and AHIMA, two of the largest accrediting associations, require CEU's (continuing education units). While they both differ in their requirements, the options in this article will fulfill all the requirements for the AAPC and a portion of the requirements for AHIMA.
The AAPC requires the completion of 18 CEU's annually for the CPC, CPC-H (Hospital), or CPC-P (Payer). If you have attained dual credentials, 24 CEU's annually, and for three credentials, 30 CEU's annually.
AHIMA requires completion of 20 CEU's during a two-year period (cycle) for their RHIT, CCA, CCS, and CCS-P plus an annual self-assessment for each coding credential.
