Using Correct Coding To Increase Your Practices Revenue
Category: Coding
I am shocked when I see providers that are reimbursed on a fee-for-service model that have not done the research to optimize their reimbursement on coding.
C PT codes explain the what and ICD explain the why on a CMS1500 form. They are both vital in getting claims paid. Accuracy is vital for compliance and medical necessity. Sometimes there are several choices of CPT/HCPCS codes for the very same service. Each of those code selections will have a different revenue in the providers contract. Some may have no value attached.
For a practice to be cost effective, you have to have a staff that verify eligibility and benefits and have conscious awareness of the concept of multiple codes for the same service. Education and monitoring are a necessity to maintain, but it is easily wrapped into adherence with your mandated compliance plan which we should all have by now.
